Savannah O’Brien, Psy.D.
Licensed Clinical
Psychologist

Finding a therapist can feel like a daunting task, especially if you are new to the therapeutic process. I applaud you for taking the first step and reaching out for help! Because I see therapy as a concerted effort, I aim to take a collaborative approach based on my client’s needs, preferences and relational style. I hope to help people understand more about themselves, their relationships with others, and the ways in which they view and navigate the world. In doing this, it is also my hope that my clients will gain awareness and feel empowered to make the necessary changes in their lives. By helping you uncover and celebrate your strengths, you may also develop a greater sense of acceptance and self-love.

I view my approach to the therapeutic process as integrative, client-centered and relational. I am passionate about social justice and am committed to providing feminist and multiculturally-informed treatment. I also understand that meeting clients where they are sometimes means taking a more directive approach and offering more skills-based interventions. When this is the case, I like to integrate more emotion regulation practices and mindfulness-based skills.

Experience

I am grateful to have had experience working with both children and adults throughout my training. Previously, I have worked in public and private school settings, college counseling centers, and a community mental health clinic. My experience consists of individual and group therapy work, and I most recently completed my Internship at Northern Illinois University’s Counseling and Consultation Services.

I enjoy working with people who are seeking help with relationship struggles, low self-esteem, anxiety, mood disorders, phase of life or transitional concerns, issues with identity development, and maternal mental health.
