Mary Madrake, Psy.D.

Dr. Mary Madrake Psychotherapist 60613

I take a collaborative, psychodynamic approach to treatment. You know your experiences, goals, and preferences best and my job is to help support your growth and overcome obstacles. I believe that early relationships and interactions, such as those with parents and family, can set the tone for how we interact with others, even as adults. By exploring the past and how it impacts the present, we can better understand how we react to situations and respond to others. Our work can also focus on developing skills that can help you to understand yourself better, improve your relationships, and reach your goals.

Psy.D., Clinical Psychology, 2019, Adler University

M.A., Clinical Psychology, 2015, Adler University

B.A., Psychology, 2012, East Carolina University

I am a Postdoctoral Resident at Balanced Awakening. I have several years of clinical experience, yet need one more year of supervised practice before I am eligible for licensure. I am supervised by Dr. Lorenz, Dr. Dykema, and Dr. Sido outside of appointment times.

I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma. Much of my clinical and research experience is focused on working with individuals who have experienced various types of trauma, such as early neglect or abuse, domestic violence, or community violence. I strive for being cultural and diversity-aware in both my personal and professional life. I am a Kink-aware and Poly friendly therapist with experience working with teenagers and adults in the LGBTQ+ community.

I have worked with individuals and groups in schools, community mental health centers, and transitional facilities and with clients from pre-school age to older adults. I completed my doctoral internship at Community Services Institute, Inc. in Springfield Massachusetts, where I worked with clients who had experienced chronic and early childhood trauma, substance use concerns, mood disorders, and personality disorders.
